Writing Curriculum
At Holbrook, we follow a carefully designed sentence knowledge curriculum that builds children’s grammar skills and understanding step by step. Our goal is to help every child become a confident, fluent writer who can construct a variety of sentences with increasing independence and accuracy.
Children have regular opportunities to apply their writing skills through both guided and independent tasks. These are often inspired by high-quality texts and make meaningful links to other areas of the curriculum, helping pupils see the purpose and joy of writing across subjects.
Key elements such as transcription and spelling are also central to our writing curriculum. All pupils take part in daily Read Write Inc. (RWI) or Spelling Shed sessions to strengthen these skills. Each English lesson begins with a handwriting session using Letter-join, supporting neat, fluent, and legible writing for all learners.
